Barbecued Charred Green Beans With Bacon And Shallots offer a delightful combination of flavors and textures that can elevate any meal.
Grilling or barbecuing the green beans gives them a smoky, slightly charred flavor that adds depth and complexity with a crisp texture with a slightly earthy taste. Like with this Roasted Charred Sweet Potatoes.
Their natural flavor is enhanced by the grilling process, which brings out their sweetness.
The charred bits provide a subtle bitterness that complements the other ingredients.
The bacon brings a rich, salty, and savory element to the dish.
And the shallots add a sweet and mellow onion flavor, which balances the saltiness of the bacon. When cooked, shallots become tender and slightly caramelized, contributing a mild sweetness.
The combination of these ingredients are tied together with balsamic vinegar. Some aged balsamic vinegars exhibit umami characteristics.
And with its use in this recipe, it adds an additional savory layer, making the dish deeply satisfying and flavorful.
This dish is often served as a side at barbecues, picnics, or casual gatherings, complementing grilled meats, like this Greek Grilled Chicken and other hearty dishes.
Overall, Barbecued Charred Green Beans With Bacon And Shallots, is a flavorful and versatile dish that can bring a touch of elegance and complexity to any barbecue spread.
Barbecued Charred Green Beans With Bacon And Shallots
1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed
4 slices smoked bacon, chopped (preferably thick sliced bacon)
2 shallots, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
Rinse and trim the ends of the green beans. Pat them dry with a clean towel.
Toss the green beans in a mixing bowl with olive oil, salt, and pepper. If you like a bit of heat, add a pinch of red pepper flakes.
Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped bacon and cook until crispy, stirring occasionally. This should take about 5-7 minutes.
Once the bacon is crispy, remove it using a slotted spoon and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess fat.
In the same skillet with the bacon fat, add the sliced shallots. Cook over medium heat until the shallots are soft and slightly caramelized, about 3-4 minutes.
Remove the shallots from the skillet and set them aside with the bacon.
Preheat the barbecue grill to medium-high heat, 375 – 400 degrees.
Place the green beans in a single layer on the grill. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, turning them occasionally with tongs, until they are charred and tender.

Drizzle with balsamic vinegar and toss everything together to combine. Taste and adjust the seasoning with more salt and pepper if needed.
This dish can be served as a side to grilled meats like this Grilled Za’atar Chicken With Garlic Yogurt And Cilantro or fish, like this Oven-Baked Pecan Crusted Salmon.
