A behind-the-scenes look at what I’ve been building lately 🍽️

Hi friends,
I wanted to share a little behind-the-scenes update on what’s been happening at Cook Plate Fork lately — and why the site has been leaning more into guides and foundational cooking resources.
Over the past few weeks, I’ve been working on content that answers the kinds of questions cooks often have mid-recipe:
What can I swap if I’m missing an ingredient?
Why does this appliance actually matter?
How do flavors work together across different cuisines?
That’s what inspired recent additions like:

Culinary Guides: Essential Cooking Techniques, How-To’s & Ingredient Tips
A growing collection of culinary guides designed to be bookmarked and reused (you can find them all here: Culinary Guides: Essential Cooking Techniques, How-To’s & Ingredient Tips).
A deeper spices and flavors guide to help build confidence beyond following recipes.
A quick-reference kitchen substitutes guide (because no one wants to abandon dinner halfway through).
A practical look at why I actually use the Instant Pot — not hype, just real use cases.
And one of my favorites to research: a global tour of omelets, which reminded me how universal simple food really is.
Behind the scenes, this kind of content takes longer than recipes. It means testing ideas, cross-checking techniques, and asking, “Will this genuinely help someone cook with more ease?”
But it also feels like the heart of what I want Cook Plate Fork to be: a place that helps you understand food, not just follow instructions.
A little sneak peek at what I’m working on next:
Pantry Essentials Guide — a practical reference for stocking a flexible, cook-friendly pantry
Grains & Pasta Cooking Times Guide — a quick, no-guesswork guide for everyday cooking
These are still in progress, but I’m excited to share them with you soon.
Coming up next, I’m planning to blend these guides more closely with recipes — so when you’re cooking, you’ll know why something works, not just that it does.
Thanks for being here and supporting this quieter, more thoughtful side of the site. It really means a lot.
Warmly,
— Cook Plate Fork
