Spicy Sweet Potato Muffins

The delicious flavor of sweet potatoes with allspice, cinnamon and brown sugar make these muffins the perfect anytime treat.

These cupcakes are moist and tender due to the addition of buttermilk.

What Buttermilk Does For Baked Goods

Buttermilk can help your baked goods go from “good” to “great” or from “great” to “extraordinary.”

It also adds flavor and can improve the texture and color of your baked good. It also helps make them moist and tender by breaking down gluten.

Nicely Browned Not Over Cooked Or Burnt Spicy Sweet Potato Cupcake

Buttermilk can help avoid overcooking your baked goods as well. It keeps them from browning too quickly.

Although it has a sour or tangy taste, the liquid is mellowed out by the other ingredients in your baked good.

The acid in buttermilk slows microbial growth, but it can still spoil if not kept cold. If you don’t use buttermilk often you can use a buttermilk powder which works just as well as fresh.
