The savory flavor is caraway seeds. The seeds are a common savory spice in traditional European baking, due to their distinct earthy fennel and anise taste and sharp aroma.

That savory flavor is offset by sweet dried cranberries and raw honey.

Sweet & Savory Broccoli Carrot Slaw
4 – 5 broccoli stalks, shredded
3 carrots, shredded
1/2 cup dried cranberries
3/4 cup mayonnaise
1 teaspoon mustard
1 teaspoon lemon juice
2 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons raw honey
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
1/2 teaspoon caraway seeds
Making The Dressing
Heat a small skillet over medium heat. Add the caraway seeds and toast them until fragrant, stirring constantly, 2 to 3 minutes. Transfer the seeds to a spice grinder or mortar and pestle. Crush until mildly ground. Set aside.
In a small bowl, whisk the mayonnaise, mustard, lemon juice, vinegar, honey, spices, crushed caraway seeds together until creamy.
Peel the carrots. Shredded both the peeled carrots and broccoli stems with a box grater.
Combine the shredded broccoli stems and carrots in a large bowl.
Pour the dressing over the shredded broccoli mixture and toss until combined.

Store covered, in the refrigerator at least 1 hour or overnight before serving to let flavors meld.
