Hot Pastrami Sandwich With Provolone Cheese & Roasted Sweet Peppers

Pastrami is a Romanian dish that is typically made using beef brisket and sometimes lamb or turkey.

The raw meat is put into a brine, then partially dried. Next it is seasoned with herbs and spices. And the last step is to smoke and steam it.

Like corn beef, pastrami was originally created as a way to preserve meat before the invention of the refrigerator.

Sussman Volk a New York butcher shop owner is said to have invented the hot pastrami sandwich in the United States in 1887.

Hot pastrami is typically served at delicatessens on rye with a dill pickle slice and a side of coleslaw.
