Easy Banana Syrup: Quick & Delicious

1 cup ripe bananas, mashed (about 2 bananas)

1 cup water

1 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon lemon juice, can also use lime juice

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/8 teaspoon cinnamon or nutmeg

In a saucepan, combine the mashed bananas, water, and sugar.

Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally to dissolve the sugar.

Reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 10-15 minutes, or until the mixture thickens slightly. Stir occasionally to prevent burning or sticking.

Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the lemon juice, vanilla extract and cinnamon or nutmeg.

Strain the syrup through a fine mesh sieve to remove any banana solids, leaving you with a smooth syrup.

Cook’s Notes

Use the strained solids to mix into a pancake batter. Like these Tender Banana Buckwheat Pancakes or use it to bake a banana bread.

Allow the syrup to cool completely, then transfer it to a clean jar or bottle. Store in the refrigerator and use within 7 days.

Yes and I have even bought and used a Ginger syrup. Right now in the fridge I have a Bourbon Maple syrup I got at Costco. The maple syrup was aged first in bourbon barrels.
