Baked Apples Apple Pie

With so many varieties of apples to choose from, more than 2,500 varieties in the United States alone – which apple is the right one for baking?

You want an apple with flavor and firmness. A good baking apple will have a tart, acidic flavor and will bake down to a soft consistency but not mushy.

These apples would include the Granny Smith, Braeburns, Johnathon, Pink Lady, Golden Delicious and Honey Crisp.

If the color of the apple isn’t a vibrant red or an even shade of green don’t worry their flavor and crispiness is still the same as a so called first grade apple.
