Plus, it’s a wonderful way to preserve the lovely taste of cherries for times when they’re not in season.

Easy Homemade Cherry Syrup

2 cups fresh cherries, pitted and halved

1 cup granulated sugar

1 cup water

1 tablespoon lemon juice (optional)

Prepare the Cherries

Start by washing the cherries thoroughly. Remove the pits and halve the cherries.

Combine Ingredients

In a medium saucepan, combine the pitted cherries, sugar, and water. If you like a hint of acidity, add the lemon juice as well.

Cook the Mixture

Heat the saucepan over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Once it starts to simmer, reduce the heat and let it cook for about 10-15 minutes. The cherries will soften, and the syrup will thicken.

Strain the Syrup

Remove the saucepan from heat. Use a fine-mesh strainer to separate the syrup from the cherry solids. Press the cherries with a spoon to extract as much syrup as possible.

Cool and Store

Allow the syrup to cool completely. Pour it into a clean glass jar or bottle and store it in the refrigerator. It should last for about a month.

Enjoy your fresh homemade cherry syrup on pancakes, waffles, or as a sweet topping for desserts. The possibilities are endless.
