A staple in countries across the Middle East, this delicious fruit is made with by cooked down the juice of pomegranates to a thick syrup that is a little sweet but more tangy.
Pomegranate molasses is call “narsharab” in the Middle East, which literally means pomegranate wine. Though the product contains no alcohol, but rather 10% citric acid and 45% sugar.
It is not used as a sweetener but rather a condiment, and as a cooking ingredient throughout the Middle East.
As a condiment, it can be used as a dipping sauce for grilled meats and pairs exceptionally well with roasted vegetables.

This delightful Pomegranate Molasses Vinaigrette will add a burst of freshness and zing to your salad.
Pomegranate molasses is available in the U.S. at Middle Eastern markets, Whole Foods Market, Trader Joe’s, some supermarket’s and online.
Pomegranate Molasses Vinaigrette
3 tablespoons pomegranate molasses
2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon honey
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
2/3 cup olive oil
Add pomegranate molasses, vinegar, mustard, honey and olive oil to in salad dressing shaker.
Shake vigorously until ingredients are emulsified. Season with salt, pepper, and more honey, if desired.

A Salad Mix Of Roasted Sweet Potato (with olive oil and Herbs de Providence), Honey Crisp Apple, Bibb Lettuce, Arugula, Walnuts And Sharp Cheddar Cheese
Alternatively, add pomegranate molasses, vinegar, mustard and honey to a medium bowl.
Whisking constantly, gradually add olive oil until emulsified. Season with salt, pepper, and more honey, if desired.

I do enjoy pomegranate molasses but it languishes in my pantry far too long without being used. Thank you for the inspiration.
It was the same for me at first, until I started investing how the originators of the pomegranate molasses use it in cooking. They use it just like a condiment. Much like you would a vinaigrette, steak sauce, mayonnaise, mustard, ketchup, fish sauce etc. Haven’t posted it yet, but I used it to roast some carrots that also included coriander, cumin, cayenne and mixed with fresh mint leaves after roasting. You can get it at Whole Foods – Trader Joe’s – Online – or if you have one in town a Middle Eastern market – It is usually used as a condiment – I used it tonight to make roasted carrots 🥕- will be posting that soon 😋👍🏼🍻
