Homemade Italian Style Meatballs

Italian meatballs in Italy are called “polpettes.”They are a simple peasant dish and are never served with marinara sauce or pasta, but rather are considered a main course sometimes served in a light broth.

In the U.S. meatballs served with spaghetti and tomato sauce is a purely an American invention, the result of Italian immigrants to the U.S. at the turn of the 20th century.

Different Styles Of Meatballs

These Italian style meatballs are fun and easy to make. And when they’re done and plate, your first bite will be what you expect from Homemade Italian Style Meatballs, real Italian flavor.

Homemade Italian Style Meatballs

1 pound ground beef, at least 80% lean

1 pound ground Italian sausage

2 large eggs

1 cup panko breadcrumbs, plain

½ cup parmesan cheese, grated,

½ cup yellow onion, finely minced

2 teaspoons salt

1 teaspoon black pepper

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

1 teaspoon minced garlic

Preheat oven to 400 degrees

In a lage bowl, mix all the ingredients together. Knead the mixture with your hands until thoroughly combined.

Roll into 1 1/2 inch meatballs and place on a baking sheet lined with a silicone baking mate or parchment paper.



Bake in the preheated oven until cooked through, about 20-24 minutes.
