Green salsa, also known as salsa verde, is a vibrant, tangy addition to any dish, offering a refreshing twist to your culinary endeavors.

Whether drizzled over tacos, used as a dip, or incorporated into your favorite recipes, this versatile sauce adds a punch of flavor that is both invigorating and satisfying.

Making Green Salsa: A Simple Guide

Ingredients

l pound tomatillos, husked, rinsed, cut in half

The star ingredient, tomatillos, provide the unique tartness that defines salsa verde.

Ensure they are husked and rinsed.

1-2 jalapeno peppers, seeds and vain removed

This ingredient adds some heat. Adjust the quantity based on your spice preference.

For a milder salsa, remove the seeds and vain before roasting the peppers.

1 small white onion, quartered

Adds a slight sweetness and depth to the salsa.

1/2 cup cilantro, leaves and stems

Provides fresh, herbaceous notes.

2 cloves garlic, smashed

Imparts a rich, savory aroma.

1 cup chicken broth (Find Recipe Here: Homemade Chicken Stock)

Adds depth and richness to the salsa.

Salt to taste

Enhances overall flavor.

Preparing

Prep the Tomatillos

Add prepared tomatillos, peppers and quartered onion cut-side down, on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil. Do not forget to include the smashed garlic.

Broil

Broil on high for about 5-7 minutes until the surfaces of the tomatillos and peppers are charred and blistered.

Blend

Transfer the roasted vegetables to a blender with the cilantro and chicken broth. Blend until smooth. Taste and season with salt, if desired.

Typically, green sauce or salsa verde is made with either lime juice, water or vegetable oil.

Our version of green salsa maintains its vibrant flavor while incorporating a savory depth from the chicken broth.
