It can be said that wild salmon have a free-spirited nature, thriving in the natural environment of the ocean.

They spend their days swimming against strong currents, hunting for their food, and navigating the vast waters with agility and strength.



Their diet consists of a variety of natural foods found in the ocean, such as plankton, krill, and smaller fish.

Because of their diverse diet, their flesh has a rich flavor and a natural vibrant orange red color.

Their flesh is high in vitamins D and B-12. As well as selenium and omega-3 fatty acids.



On the other hand, farmer salmon live in a controlled environment within sea cages or pens.

They are fed a formulated diet consisting of pellets made from grains, fishmeal, and other additives.



While this diet may provide sustenance for the pinned up salmon, it lacks the diversity and richness of nutrients found in their wild counterparts’ natural diet.

Therefore, their flesh is almost a pale tan color, with a higher fat content. As they are caged in cramped quarters, they’re exposed to more toxins and contaminants.


EcoWatch reports, that Farm-raised and wild caught salmon contain the same amount of cholesterol, but wild salmon have half the fat of farmed in a typical half-filet serving


Their flesh is high in inflammatory omega-6 fatty acids (which have been scientifically proven to be linked to obesity) because of their corn and grain fed diet.

This can result in a milder flavor and softer texture compared to wild salmon.



Scientific Reports published in Nature states after a study about the impact of sustainable feeds on farmed Atlantic salmon. As these farmed fish have less good fatty acids than do wild caught salmon.
